Lighting rooms with high ceilings can be a daunting task. In these rooms, the use of conventional table lamps and the installation of wall defects will simply not be. Even a ceiling light (or two) will not be sufficient to provide general illumination of rooms with high ceilings. In order to exclusively bright rooms with high ceilings, it is necessary to follow various lighting strategies.
To begin with, a room with high ceilings should be evaluated based on where the furniture and appliances will be or are already located. These areas can be focused while installing electrical wiring with additional sockets for high traffic and usage. Similarly, if there are any interesting features in the ceiling itself, such as plaster moldings or frescoes, the lighting sockets can be installed either directly opposite or above these features. Finally, keep in mind that a high or vaulted ceiling is an end in itself and therefore should not be hidden, but shown with appropriate lights. As a result, special lamps should be planned and installed along the corners of the ceiling and used to emphasize the height and space of the high ceiling.
The light, which is most beneficial for providing ambient lighting in a room with high ceilings, includes lights and pendant lights, such as chandeliers. Such lights can be installed at regular intervals along the ceiling zone, with stronger light bulbs used for seating or other areas with a high level of use. In areas such as fireplaces, entertainment centers and shop windows, more such lights can be installed. Chandeliers are especially useful in rooms with high ceilings, because they help to bring the lighting to eye level.
A wall lamp can also be used for ambient lighting in a room with high ceilings. These lights can be installed evenly around the room, or they can be grouped together to create visual appeal. Remember that it is important to keep in mind that large ceilings require more and higher sconces than rooms with a lower ceiling. Up to 3 feet or 1 meter is a good brane length; vertically, it breaks the wall and adds visual appeal. If a group of vertical marriages is installed, this will create the illusion of a ceiling located at the top of the light line, making the room more attractive.
When installing general lighting, make sure that all this can be controlled using a set of dimmer switches. This will help to save energy on the lighting, as well as allow the lighting of the room to become a function of need.
Accent lighting can be used to highlight the architectural or decorative features of a room with high ceilings. Spot lights are commonly used for such a purpose and are ideal because they illuminate a limited field of 30 degrees. Frescoes and moldings can be lit spotlights, located either directly opposite or at an angle from them. Recessed corners, domes and arches are also best suited for spot lighting.
Distressed lights should not be overlooked when it comes to lighting a room with high ceilings, as they are still needed to illuminate work areas such as tables and kitchen counters. However, due to the height of the ceiling in the room, lamps and torches of regular size will not do justice in the room and do not complement its aesthetics. For such a room should use higher and larger lamps and torches.
What should be done while trying to illuminate the space with an extremely high ceiling, for example, in a theater or even in a cathedral? In general, the same rules apply for use and types of general, accent and task lighting. Adequate general lighting will require more floods and pendant lights. Since theaters, and especially cathedrals, should have deep corners, extensive frescoes and elaborate decor on the ceiling line, spotlights should also be used to demonstrate these features. The same is true for wall paintings, paintings and niches; in this place you will need spotlights, which are installed in the lower points along the walls. Finally, task lighting will require even higher and larger lamps and torches. In some cases, task lighting may even become a function of point lights that are installed in the recessed areas of the walls. Such lighting will help to minimize the shadows in the task area, highlighting these functions and elements.
