No matter how old or new your house is many times, when there is an electrical problem in your house, warning signs will appear before the problem becomes so serious that you have to hire an electrician to fix it. If you know the signs, they can warn you that something is wrong and need to be repaired before it causes material damage or even causes an electric shock. Some of the problems that you can diagnose and fix, but many times are going to take a licensed electrician to diagnose the problem and fix it.
Circuit Breaker Problems
When the circuit is overloaded, the circuit breaker turns off. When you turn off the power, the breaker will prevent the electrical wires from overheating, which can cause a fire. The circuit breaker may also turn off when it is old. When they turn off sometimes, it may indicate a simple overload. Try connecting what caused the switch to enter another circuit, and if the switch turns off again, you should call an electrician. You have to be careful when working inside the electrical panel, because it requires skills. Even if you turn off the main switch, power is still applied to the electrical panel. If you replace the fuse or circuit breaker, make sure you never replace it with one that has a higher rating, because it can overheat and catch fire.
Hot ceiling lights
Most people do not sometimes think of checking the area around their ceiling lights to see if they are warm. The reason is that not all fixtures in the ceilings are very well insulated. Also, if the maximum power recommended for the bulb is exceeded, this may lead to overheating of the light fixture. This can be a fire hazard if too much heat builds up. One solution is to switch to LED (LED) or CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) lamps. Any of these lamps does not produce as much heat as ordinary light bulbs.
Spark or burning
If a burning smell is emitted from any switches or outlets, you should immediately switch to the electrical panel and turn off the power. Then you should call a qualified electrician to come to your home and find what causes the smell, and make repairs. It may be a faulty device, but it may be an overload or connection problem. The smell of burning odor can be a very serious problem, as it can be an indicator of starting an electrical fire.
