The Marigny / Byother district in New Orleans is a gentrified area with a unique population of artists, musicians, “grafts” and residents who watched their transformation. This area encourages art in all forms and stimulates your imagination during a simple walk. When visiting this area you will see unique clothes, bars with holes in the wall and bicycles as the main modes of transport. If you are moving to New Orleans to immerse yourself in the culture, I recommend living in Marigny / Bywater.
One of my favorite features of this area is the latest art installation “Music Box - Shantitoun Sound Lab”, created by the artist, “Dream”. This is literally a music house. You can stomp on the keys of the piano, play recycled drums and climb through the complex tree house, which only promises to be bigger. They even invite local musicians to "play" in the house. The result of this is the dream world of an adult child, which brings you back to your childhood’s imagination of endless possibilities. Speaking of a country house, on the corner of Press Street and St. Louis there is a house for adults of size. Claude Avenue, where you can enjoy a friendly game in Foursquare from 11:00 to 4:00 on any Wednesday. Another interesting adventure is to ride a bike to the “doomsday” on the river to watch the fireworks on the New Year.
The area also has great bars and restaurants. My favorite Country Club is a fun bar / restaurant with excellent cuisine and a bottomless Mimosa Branch every weekend. They have an extra pool for clothes and an exciting brunch break every third Sunday of the month. The Joint has the best barbecue in town, but if you're looking for New York-style pizza, Pizza Delicious is open on Sundays and Thursdays on Rampart St.
Living in the Marigny / Bayoure area, it’s impossible to miss the work of Dr. Bob. It is presented in almost every bar and restaurant within a radius of 1 mile and will always delight you and offend you at the same time. Its space is located on Chartres Street, near the New Creativity in New Orleans (NOCCA). This high school that focuses on artistic talents and admission requirements includes listening. Many of their graduates have become successful artists, and they have a bragging rights for actors Harry Connick Jr. and Wendell Pierce.
The New Orleans Healing Center is another addition to the community that offers a food cooperative, a yoga studio, new business assistance programs, a street university, an art bazaar, a gym, a voodoo shop and a number of other functions designed to promote education and healing. We hope that the installation of the Healing Center will lead to the improvement of historical improvements, including the Church of St. George. Roch Market, a large market for products that is expected to be renovated in the coming years.
Live music and drinking are new products in New Orleans. St. Claude Avenue, Frenchman Street and Franklin Avenue each offer opportunities for bar-jumping and live music without the smell of Bourbon Street. A complete list of live music throughout the city can be found at http://www.wwoz.org/new-orleans-community/music-calendar. The site of this radio station splits every live show every night in the city, and you will notice that most of the best activities are in the Marigny / Byother area.
When you decide to move to the area, bring your bike and take advantage of all the possibilities to enjoy the culture. There is no other place.
