Inverter generators - what to buy, Chinese or Japanese? -2

In this article, we look at 2kva inverter generators and the various options available. Honda has been in this market for many years and is the market leader. His 2kva model is sold in Australia for about $ 2,000, which is why it is quite expensive, which made other people look for alternatives.

Yamaha is a new entrant in this market, and its 2kva model is very popular among our customers. Is the Yamaha better than the Honda? Yamaha is also about $ 2,000, so they can fight among them, but many want to know that Chinese units worth between $ 500 and $ 700 are at risk? In my experience, I have to say no at this stage. Even $ 500 is a lot of money if the generator does not do the work you need. We tested several different Chinese brands and found that they have reasonable quality control problems. Many of the problems can be overcome by checking good quality control (if you have the skills), but we also saw many other problems, such as shared motors and faulty inverters. These generators also have a lot of small problems that would not be such a problem, but most importers of Chinese generators did not bring spare parts, because of which it was almost impossible to fix them. If you still want to look at the Chinese brand, I suggest looking at those that were assembled by large generator companies. In these cases, good companies check the generators and control them before they go out and sell spare parts. However, you will pay much more than an eBay seller.

We have been selling Kipor generators for about 5 years. Kipor is a Chinese company that is much more professional than many, and although their share of problems seems to be much better at an early stage. We believe that about 95% of our customers are happy with their Kipor, as they save about $ 800 from the price of a Honda or Yamaha.

So you have to pay an extra 800 dollars or go to Cyprus? This is a big question that we are asked very much. My answer is always the following: if you intend to use the generator only occasionally, and if the generator failure does not cause too much drama, then Kipor is a good choice and will save you $ 800. But if you are going to rely on your generator (say, to start the caravan air conditioner on a trip), or you intend to derive a lot of benefit from this, I will still ride a Yamaha or Honda. In our experience, their reliability is still much higher than that of Kipor, so we believe that it is worth the extra money if you can justify it.

So is this your only choice? No, we have a new version on the market, designed to switch between Japanese and Chinese brands. Our new Kulkyne 2kva inverter generator was built using the original Yamaha engine and other high-quality components to match the quality of Japanese brands, without having the price of big Japanese names. If you want to check out our range of generators or the Kulkyne inverter generator, see References.
