Acupuncture and Crohn's Disease - Does it provide help? -2

Remicade is a treatment that shows a lot of promises for Crohn sufferers, but this is not the only available option. In fact, many patients with Crohn believe that the combination of acupuncture and crown with treatment helps them cope effectively and find relief from their symptoms.

According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the body has approximately two thousand acupuncture points, and each of these points is connected by two lanes, known as meridians. Meridians conduct qi (life cycle energy) between the internal organs and the body surface. Qi has a varied effect on every point that passes through acupuncture and helps maintain balance in body and mind. According to TCM, intestinal disorders, such as Crohn's disease, are a disorder of the spleen and liver and an insufficient kidney support. Thus, acupuncture usually affects these organisms, which will be aimed at alleviating the symptoms.

Although TCM believes that symptom relief is associated with stimulation of the meridians using acupuncture points that bring balance to the body and mind, Western medicine has different theories about why acupuncture is effective. For example, many people believe that acupuncture stimulates the nervous system, which blocks the impulses of pain from entering the brain. Another theory suggests that acupuncture causes the release of endorphins (natural painkillers). While another believes that acupuncture can release opioids into the body, which is another substance that provides relief from pain. Despite the real reason, the fact is that acupuncture provides relief.

Acupuncture is a common treatment for inflammatory bowel disease in China and is increasingly used in Western culture. Studies on the effectiveness of acupuncture for the treatment of Crohn's disease, closely monitored changes in the overall quality of life and well-being of patients with mild to moderate Crohn's disease. It was found that traditional acupuncture was successful in relieving Crohn’s symptoms in most of these participants.

Some of the symptoms of Crohn's acupuncture can ease the addition, but are not limited to:

o Abdominal pain

o Constipation

o Diarrhea

o nervousness

o Anxiety

o Insomnia

o Menstrual cramps

How is acupuncture performed? It depends on the person. All are treated differently, so that their own specific needs can be met. The following is a general description of how traditional acupuncture is administered to patients.

To stimulate the flow of chi, solid hair-fine needs are inserted individually at certain acupuncture points that are classified as targeted meridians. The needles are not inserted as deep as the hypodermic needles, and do not collect blood. They are intended only for penetration to the surface of the meridian, which is well seeded in the affected organs and tissues.

Acupuncture does not cause pain when the needles are inserted correctly, but the patient may feel a slight tingling, pain or numbness in the area where the needles are applied. Any discomfort that can be felt usually disappears after the needles are removed.

After insertion, the acupuncturist can rotate the needles or connect them to an electrical current to provide the target meridian with effective stimulation. Sometimes specific herbs or oils are used in combination with needles to help treat the condition and alleviate certain symptoms. Despite the methods used, the whole treatment process can last from 20 to 60 minutes.

To get effective treatment with successful results, it is important for you to undergo acupuncture from a qualified acupuncturist, especially those who have experience in treating inflammatory bowel disease. It would also be nice to consult with your doctor about your decision to seek alternative treatment before continuing.
