Salary negotiation is a sticky subject. -2

After you have received a job offer, you may feel that the package needs improvement so that you can accept the position.

So what could you do to improve the situation?

If possible, do not try to agree immediately after the proposal. Make sure you ask for the proposal to submit in writing, and then try to postpone any negotiations for as long as possible.

When you receive a job offer in writing, you can reply by confirming the receipt of the offer and letting you know that you confirm your consent within (say) 7 days. This may be more if necessary, but it is better to inform them if you are going to go on vacation, for example.

Now you have gained time for yourself, use it constructively to explore the average salary of people in similar positions.

You can even contact other companies in your area if they advertise similar job openings. Use the Internet search to quickly force you to use various sites and payroll calculators.

Break the complete package you were offered and make sure that you clearly identify which areas of the package you would like to improve.

Refrain from making strong statements, but contact the employer and say that, although you would really like to accept the offer, you were expecting [basic salary or holiday paid days or car benefit or insurance] to be a little better, and if it could be improved, you will immediately accept it and agree with the start date.

If you have to move, you can mention this in your negotiations and ask for help with expenses.

You should never show your employer that you need money, as this can make you look desperate and reduce your chances of successful negotiations.

If the initial earnings turn out to be non-negotiable, you can ask for an early review “when you have proved yourself,” perhaps after 3 months. Always remember that you do not need to take anything - you can leave, but if you agree, you may have an opportunity to improve the situation later.
