As one of the main destination islands in the world, a trip to the states of South Australia will not be complete without stopping on Kangaroo Island. If you are planning to visit this unique and fun place, do not forget to leave at least three days for sightseeing. Seven times the size of Singapore, this is not a place that needs to be crowded on a day trip!
The city of Kingscote is the busiest area of the island and serves as its commercial center. With a harbor built around Nepean Bay, this city is known for its recreational opportunities for boats and fishing, as well as the opportunity to dine on freshly confessed seafood. There are also “little penguins” in the area, which took the local sandstone cliffs as their homes. Nightly excursions can be organized to watch the animals when they return to their dens after searching for food in the ocean. An important heritage site in Kingscote is Reeves Point, the site of the old city of Kingscote.
The American River Village is home to the Kangaroo Island oyster fishery. Here you will find excellent opportunities for boating and can even take a look at the completed glossy black cockatoo. The nearby Pelican Lagoon is a tranquil water reserve filled with local birds, making it an ideal place for bird watching.
In the North Coast is a small resort village of Emu Bay, where you can find beautiful beaches, where you can swim, go boating and picnic. Only 18 kilometers from Kingscote, Emu Bay can be a quiet base from which to explore the many attractions found on the island.
The heart of the island is concentrated in Parndan, “the place of small gums”. Parndana, founded in 1951 as a result of an agricultural boom in the area, is considered a very typical small Australian city. Local wildlife abounds here, so be careful while driving. At the Community Hotel you can organize nightly excursions around the koala.
