Being an interior designer for more than 25 years, I am very familiar with the most common mistakes that most people make (even some professionals) when designing a house. The decoration should reflect our taste and style, and this is a very personal matter. However, there are a few errors that need to be fixed. The following is a list of bugs and fixes.
MISTAKE 1: Linear ... building furniture on one wall. I see that this is very much done in the bedrooms, where some different costumes of all people are hated against one wall. This creates a “cluttered” look. He is also unbalanced.
CORRECTION: Do not forget to measure the space and size of the furniture that you will impose on each wall. Place one main piece of furniture on the wall. You want to make sure the room looks and looks balanced. Also, do not forget to leave enough “walk room” between the bed and the furniture. You do not want to stumble upon things if you get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. The scale here is very important.
MISTAKE 2: Furniture placement ... many people think that pressing the living room sofa on the wall and having open space in the center of the room will make the room larger ... Wrong. This type of location makes it difficult to talk.
CORRECTION: Since the sofa is the largest part in the room, it should be located in the center and opposite either the entertaining wall or the fireplace (focus). Rebuild the remaining parts around the sofa to create an intimate setting, more conversational. (collect all the items in the center of the room) Make sure the TV is suspended / placed at eye level and the sofa is at the correct distance from the TV. The distance depends on the size of the TV and your preferences. A good rule of thumb is to take the size of your TV and multiply it by 1.5. For example, if you have a 42-inch flat-screen TV, you will multiply 42 x 1.5 = 63 "or 5 × 1/4". If you feel that you are still too close, you can move your sofa back about 6 inches more than the TV, the further the sofa should go. Therefore, it is important to know the size of your room before buying a TV (measure the back seat of the sofa)
Some rooms are too small for this configuration, if you need to put the sofa on the wall, be sure to group the rest of the parts around the sofa ... do not press the chair on another wall, etc.
When you enter, you see the back of the sofa ... this is a great place to place a console table with several displayed accessories.
ERROR 3: Color fear ... when I first switched to dessert, I was shocked at how many beige / cream houses I went to. Floors, walls, ceilings and furniture were beige, which, as a rule, look dull and devoid of creativity. Many of the clients told me that they love color, but were afraid to use it. Many think using paint color other than white; make the room smaller and it will be difficult to match the furniture.
CORRECTION: Use your favorite colors! I recommend first choosing upholstery and window treatments. You can start with a palette of three colors in different shades and contrast - you can have one dark deep color, complemented by lighter colors. Select a primary color followed by accent colors. Darker colors tend to be crushed, while lighter colors tend to float. Do not use all the precious tones or pastels - mix them. After these choices are made, you can choose a paint color. It is best to choose several colors and draw them on the wall in the room. Stay with it for a day or so and see how the color looks in natural light and night light, then choose. The purpose of paint color is to improve the other colors used and to create a mood. You can use paint color to make something pop or create a soft glow. But always surround yourself with flowers that you love.
MISTAKE 4: Too many templates ... using too many templates can be distracting, busy and domineering. However, you do not want to be "matchy-matchy". There are many ways to introduce patterns into the decor of a room, but there is also a thin line with how much to use and where.
CORRECTION: I like to decorate the room with different patterns, it creates interest. However, you must stay true to your color palette and plan. Use patterns and prints very precisely to maintain the base color and draw attention to the colors of accents. Mix it with a mixture of solid colors, prints, various textures and materials.
MISTAKE 5: Hanging works are too high ... you do not need to strain your neck and eyes to view art. In most cases, art should be suspended at eye level for proper viewing and balance.
CORRECTION: I often see this mistake, art is too high suspended. Art must be hung at eye level; the main feature of art (or the center) must be at eye level. Since we are all different heights, you can use this as a guide ... hang art about 60 "above the floor, 8" -12 "above the sofa, chair or headboard 6" - 8 inches for a mirror higher in modern conditions I prefer to hang art slightly below traditional settings.
MISTAKE 6: Hanging windows with too low ... I often see this error. In most homes, art is suspended too high, and window treatments hang too low.
CORRECTION: I am considering window processing "jewelry" for the window. The goal is to dress in the window, add a beat and drama. Therefore, you do not want to stay in the window size restrictions. The higher the curtain is installed, the higher your room will be. Hanging curtains at the height of the ceiling will have a dramatic impact on the whole room. For length, go to “1” above the floor or make drapes longer to “twist” on the floor for a little drama. If you do not want to go to the floor, than go just below the window. in some cases you may touch the window sill) I don’t like curtains halfway through the wall because it looks like your fabric has run out and the flow is wrong.
MISTAKE 7: Too many loafers ... I think it is important to display personal collections, things that you like to watch or have sentimental value. However, you cannot display them all or have collections displayed in too many places; it becomes too dirty and cluttered.
CORRECTION: If you have a collection of knick-knacks that you want to display, select one area, office or wall, and show some of your favorites. You can store the rest and periodically rotate them. It is important to use accessories when decorating to combine a room, add some highlights and dramas, but again not to add too much. It is better not to have too many small items on the display. Instead, use smaller but larger pieces that add punch and create drama. It is important to have a “negative space”, so you do not need to cover everything with a do-nothing. In most cases ... · Floating rugs - measure to get the right size for your area rug ... it must always “plug in” to furniture or hold a room, leaving 12 "-16" from the floor around the carpet ... for dining ... chairs must fit on the rug
· Cheap plastic or fake plants / flowers - this is one of the areas that you should buy high quality or use real
· Vertical blinds - outdated
· Using things you don’t like anymore - it’s important to surround yourself with things you love and make you feel good (use the space on the wall in your garage for things you can't part with)
When you make a home is imperative to have a plan and budget. When you have a plan and budget, you will make better decisions and purchases. I find that most people struggle with scale and proportion when choosing furniture. Use books, online and furniture stores to collect ideas and get acquainted with what works. Visualization is difficult for most people, and if you're really stuck, it's best to call a specialist. In the end, you will save time and money, but the most important thing is that you do it right.
