The customer must order the element number of the filter element model OC 176. This is a low pressure filter cartridge with microlayer materials. Mahle OC 176 is listed in the catalog, but has been discontinued since November 2012. Specialized equipment uses high quality Mahle filters. How to solve a problem?
Specifications are required for Mahle OC 176. Consider the flow rate and operating pressure for the filter element. The flow rate is 25 liters per minute per minute) or approximately 6.6 gallons per minute (gallons). Operating pressures are in 10/16/25 bar or 140/230/360 psi. The following specifications to consider are micron rating, media type, and connection size.
Micron's estimate is the size of the particles of contaminants that the filter media will capture. OC 176 is calculated on 25 microns. The filter material is a synthetic material, also known as a microglass for paper. The micro-eyed medium in general performance is much better than paper for hydraulic filters. The surface area of the filter for OC 176 is 1200 cm2. Mahle publishes the surface area of the filter in its catalogs, and this is a quality indicator.
The element OC 176 has a connection size of 3 / 4-16 UNF 2B. The replacement alternative must comply with this specification, or the filter head must be replaced.
alternative
Mahle produces the OC 168 hydraulic filter element. It corresponds to OC 176, with the exception of the following. The OC 168 has a 10 micron rating, which is thinner than the 25 micron rating of OC 176. OC 168 has a slightly larger filter surface area of 1309 cm2 vs. 1200 cm2 for OC 176. OC 168 is available! Filters also fit. The filters will be installed on the existing filter head with the same space requirements.
The good news is that the OC 168 is a smaller micron element with a slightly larger filter surface area. A finer filter will capture and hold more pollutants than OC 176. Depending on the level of contamination inside the system, a finer filter may have a shorter life cycle than the coarser original OC 176.
Sometimes the decision is not so simple. What to do if OC 168 is unavailable? The most effective way to solve the problem would be to harmonize the previous specifications as closely as possible and change the filter head with the desired joint size and performance and physical dimensions.
