What is a good collision repair college for collision repair technology? This is a question that I often get. The answer is closer to you than you think.
As it has been shown on TV
With all serious advertising programs such as PowerBlock TV and most car-related magazines, many stakeholders believe that they should attend one of these large private schools in order to succeed in a collision repair career. However, this is not the case; they just spend more money on advertising, which makes you think about it. I call this the "as seen on TV" syndrome. Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing against private educational institutions, since I attended them. However, since then I have learned that students can get as much education as possible and save a lot of money.
There is one near you
These collision repair programs are in community colleges. You may even have one in your area. However, all programs are not equal, let me give you a few points when choosing a college of automatic body and paint.
What to look for
NATEF / ASE
When I am asked the question of what a good collision and refurbishment of a school in my area is, this is what I am looking for. I check if the school is accredited by NATEF / ASE. This ensures that the school meets ASE standards. If they are not accredited, I suggest looking for another school. There may be good schools that are not accredited, but it is impossible to determine. Perhaps you just need to do it. I would still recommend a NATEF / ASE certified school and not worry about what program they offer.
I-CAR INDUSTRY TRAINING ALLIANCE
A school may have an excellent program without using the I-CAR curriculum, but this is an added bonus if they are members of the I-CAR Training Alliance. This allows the school to provide the same training that is offered in the collision repair industry. You can also receive I-CAR points. This will give you an edge when you try to get a job.
Check it out
The last thing I recommend is to visit and attend the program. Ask to visit with instructors. Physical observation of the program and a visit with instructors with whom you will spend hours, will help you make the right decision.
The advantage of a small school
There are many benefits to attending a small school, for example, a college in a community, like in large private schools. First of all, the cost in colleges is extremely low. Therefore, you will not pay loans for the rest of your life. The second advantage is the smaller class sizes. Many colleges limit the size of their class, which allows to reduce the student ratio per teacher. This allows more time to work with the instructor. There are many other reasons, but the last reason I am going to mention is that there is probably a good college that offers collision repair technology near you. No need to travel through the state or to another state. This allows you to live at home while you attend college so that you are not dead when you enter the industry.
