So you are coming to New York for the first time. You have all heard about food, but do not know where to go! Here is a brief description of some of the best restaurants and neighborhoods for dinner on your trip to New York.
When it comes to the East Village, there is never a shortage of options. Currently, I live in the East Village, and sometimes the number of restaurants overwhelms me. Some of the best restaurants in the area include, but are not limited to, Graffiti, Hearth and Momofuku Ko. No matter what you are in the mood for, this is definitely an area to get your correction.
If you are trying to keep it cheap in the East Village, there are still excellent options. You can have anything from Vietnamese sandwiches (Vietnamese favorite drink Nikki) to Venezuela (Bar Caracas Arep) to Lomester runes in the style of Maine (Lobster Bar Lobster).
West Village has many fantastic restaurants to choose from. Babbo, Little Owl and Dell. Anima is one of my favorite places in the area. Restaurants in this part of the city tend to be on the expensive side, so be prepared to spend if you want to eat here.
Another great place to eat is Tribeca. New restaurants are constantly emerging in the area, but some of the best include LandMarc, Locanda Verde and Nobu. It's a little track to come down here, but it's worth it.
When it comes to gourmet cuisine, the best place to eat is the Columbus Circle. This is a mecca for great restaurants. Per Se was simply voted as one of the top ten restaurants in the world, meaning you need to call 60 days in advance to get a reservation. Marea has just been awarded the James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant. The list can be continued.
One last area that I love is Nolita. This is a small area, but it has great restaurants. Kenmare, Village Tart and La Esquina are some of my favorites. The peasant is another great one who will make you feel as if you are in Italy. Even the menu is Italian.
