1. Your neighborhood. Getting to know the beach cruiser before heading off the track with other riders, skaters or pedestrians is a good idea. Learn how your bike rides, the speed of your bike goes easy and how you handle the bike. A cruise in your own neighborhood is also a good way to get out of the house where you live, instead of driving your daily itinerary to get somewhere quickly.
2. Coronado Bicycle Route - this 17.1 mile long road is a good cruise between the Coronado ferry terminal and Imperial Beach. This path is securely flat with a good wide track for easy driving. The path can be busy on weekends with runners, in line skates, other racers and pedestrians also use the path. This path can also be windy throughout the day. The path goes around the outskirts of Coronado, and then down the Silver Strand. The Pacific Ocean is one side and the San Diego Bay is on the other side of this trip. The path is well maintained in most areas. The San Diego side of the trail gets a little more stupid, as the path has some more cracks.
3. Bay Bay Bay Cycle Path - 11.4 miles from the beautiful Mission Bay. This path usually has heavy traffic on weekends, as bikers, runners, pedestrians and skaters also use the path. It has many starting points along Mission Bay. The change in height is minimal, which makes this trip a great ride for a one-speed Beach Cruiser. This path also takes rider along the San Diego River and SeaWorld.
4. Mission Beach / Pacific Beach Boardwalk Path - Approximately 3 miles of fun along the Pacific Ocean. On the way there is a speed limit along the beach. It can be crowded during the difficult tourist season. There are no height changes on this path. There are many places where you can stop and take in the Pacific, have a snack or drink. Belmont Park - an amusement park in the area where there are wooden slides.
5. State Route 56 Bike Path - This 10.3-mile route runs from the Del Mar quarters to Saber Springs in San Diego. There are places for food at either end of the road, but not so much in the middle. When you go west from the east, there is one significant quarter mile uphill. This route is not a popular tourist route, but is popular with cycling enthusiasts and runners.
