Recently, the Internet cafe industry in the United States celebrated its 15th anniversary, whereas in Malaysia it was probably 13-14 years old. The number of cyber cafes around the world does not indicate a slowdown, and it will continue to grow in the coming years.
I read several articles about the cyber cafe industry and one part of an article I read from internet-cafe-guide.com, which states:
“People want to be online where they go, be it a park (with a laptop and wireless access), a public library or a cafe.
Industrial cafes are still a growing industry, as there are very few established rules on how to run and run them. Therefore, each new cyber cafe owner has the opportunity to create something unique in this dynamic industry. "
My personal opinion? I must say that I fully agree with him. In my experience with cybercafes, many people, especially visitors to your city, especially from urban areas, rely heavily on Internet access to manage their work and contacts.
However, not all cyber cafe customers are very competent in the use of computers. Therefore, in addition to providing them with access to the Internet, there are several other services that you can provide to your customers, such as printing services, a convenience store in your cyber cafe and the provision of personal computers (PCs) or repair and maintenance of laptops.
Ultimately, the best part of running Open Source Cyber Cafe is that you can show your customers and the public how FOSS can rely on it. One experience I had was a meeting with a foreign client who came to my cyber cafe with his laptop, infected with viruses and spyware. He asked me how to stop the virus from infecting his entire laptop. I asked him if he knew anything about the Linux operating system. He has, and he said that he is different from Windows XP, although it is not so difficult to use. Then I showed him one workstation in my cybercafé, which is installed with Ubuntu 8.10. I instructed him about Ubuntu and how Ubuntu can fix the problem with the virus. After seeing my demonstration, he became interested in installing Ubuntu Linux on his laptop. He came to me the next day for installation. When this was done, I set up my 3G modem and showed how easy it is to update its application in Ubuntu. Veil ... here is one new to FOSS and still a proud user.
