I immediately suspected that there was some kind of conspiracy. I definitely thought that the government was hiding something from us and freeing sex criminals back into the population for some vile purpose. I was determined to sort it out and communicate this information to you, the public.
Surprisingly, I still found a conspiracy. But this is not the one you think. The conspirators turned out to be news. Newspapers, cable networks, magazines and even social networks. It seems more appropriate to MAKE news than to tell the truth. The media is largely responsible for the myths and delusions surrounding these people. Due to the misrepresentation of information over the years, the media have been able to instill enough fear in our society that the mere mention of the term “sex offender” on their network increases the ratings. Higher ratings mean more promotional dollars. Because we want and really want to hate sex offenders, we are also responsible for perpetuating these myths.
Sex offenders are among the worst of our society. We love to hate them.
