Everything you wanted to know about carpeting (but didn't know who to ask) -2

Patch - one of the most common types of repairs that we do. We use a carpet patch to solve several types of carpet problems where areas of small to medium size from wall to wall have been damaged. People usually call us to fix their carpet when other methods of repairing their carpet will not work.

Common causes of carpet damage that require this type of repair are carpet burns, carpet stains, carpet tears, carpet holes, pet damage (Bad Kitty!), As well as remodeling, and worn tracks.

We remove the damaged area and replace it with an identical piece of carpet. When done correctly, it is usually, but not always invisible to the eye. Depending on the type of carpet, you can see the patch, but it will almost always look much better than we started.

Reasons why your carpet patch may not look as good as you like.

* Patch - a different color due to the initial fading of the carpet.

* The patch is new, and the area where it goes is old and worn.

* The patch has a gap or overlap in the seam.

* Carpet is working in the wrong direction.

Start with the basics: carpet anatomy

The more damage, the more difficult the repair, so it helps to understand what your carpet is made of, so that you can assess how far the damage has gone.

Each carpet has several layers below what we can see with the eye. This top layer, which comes in different colors, weights, heights, materials and densities (and which is an interesting part to choose when you go shopping for a carpet), is called a pile. Piles are made of many different materials: the most common nylon is in both commercial and residential repairs, because it is reliably resistant to stains and heat resistance and is not easily destroyed.

Most people are familiar with the fact that the lining is under the carpet, which helps him feel comfortable when you walk on it. This is the bottom layer. Common types of gaskets include foam (cheap), recontact, foamed foam, stone rubber, wafer rubber, fiber (for example, jute, recycled textiles, synthetic fibers, etc.), and in some cases, special Berber gaskets.

Between the pile and the gasket is the substrate, which consists of two layers and holds the fibers together, so the carpet does not fall apart. When a carpet is made, needles are used to propel the fiber through the core. It is then sealed onto the secondary backing with a very strong adhesive to keep everything in place.

Once you know how your carpet works, it's easier for you to imagine how the fix works, even if you haven't done it before. This is the basis of the anatomy of your carpet and should help you in assessing how far it has gone from damage, which is an important step in repairing the carpet and the patch of the carpet.

# 1 Carpet Requirement: Carpets!

Equally important, the removal of a damaged carpet replaces it with a well-chosen, good carpet. There are several different ways to find a patch from a new carpet:

· In ideal situations, new carpet stains originate from scrap waste left over from the original installation. Always save scraps!

· If you do not have the remaining carpet from the installation, we can steal some carpet from the closet, use a radiator or from under a piece of furniture that you never move. (Now you can never transfer it).

· If your carpet is a relatively common style, the nearest retailer may have a perfect or almost perfect match that you can purchase. (The odds of finding the perfect match are somewhere between slim and none.)

· If you need to plan a large area that matches the rest of the house (for example, a few steps on a staircase or a hallway, one of the best alternative carpet options is to rematch a carpet from another room, such as a bedroom, the carpet is exactly that one bedroom means that the corridor / staircase still corresponds to the rest of the house, and it costs a lot less money than replacing the carpet for the entire area.

The basic steps of the carpet patch for beginners.

1. Removing a damaged carpet: Start by using a straight edge and a row finder. You can use an ice pick or a Phillips screwdriver instead of a string finder. Place a straight edge on the carpet with the groove side down. Use row finder to separate sleep. Do this by dragging the row finder point across the carpet up and down and against the edge of the straight edge.

2. Use a knife with a knife blade with a new blade. You can use a knife with a knife blade (pressed to a straight edge to cut through the carpet without cutting too much nap if you have used the string finder correctly.

3. Select a shred of carpet left over from the original installation for a carpet patch. If you do not have the remaining remnants of carpet, then you will need to remove a piece from the closet or from under a piece of furniture. Some people try to find a piece of suitable carpet in a carpet store, but this is almost impossible. In some cases, we will have a customer who buys some carpet from a carpet store, which is very close to coincidence. Then we take the carpet from the cabinet to make a patch, and use the new carpet in the cabinet.

4. Determine the direction of the pile. Carpet falls more when you brush your hand in one direction than in other directions. It is incredibly important for correcting the carpet, that the entire carpet works in one direction. Sometimes it is very difficult to say in which direction the carpet sleep goes. All I can say is to hold the hand in different directions until you really recognize the carpet. If you continue to do this, you will find out.

5. Invert the carpet and use a straight edge to cut the perfect patch from the back. If you are not trained, you may not be able to cut the perfect patch. (Tip, use a fresh blade in a knife blade with a coded blade)

6. Now, when the carpet patch is cut off exactly perfectly, without any gaps or overlaps at the seams, you need to fix the edges. You can secure bridges with a latex or glue gun. Just use the smallest amount of glue along both edges so that there is no wear in the future. Not everyone seals the edges, but is highly recommended.

7. The carpet patch is cut to perfection, the edges are sealed, and now you are ready to put the carpet on the rest of the carpet. The way we do it is to use a special carpet tape with an iron or a hot glue gun. For a beginner, I recommend using glue.

Cut the suture tape to the size of the carpet patch. Align the carpet tape so that half of it is under the existing carpet and the other half under the patch.

Use a glue gun to apply a large amount of hot glue under the seam of the carpet. Slowly make your way across the carpet until you stick the rug in place. (tell me, drink a glass of water right next to you when you get melted hot glue on your fingers.

When gluing carpet with a glue gun, pay special attention to the backing. You want to glue the stand so that it just strayed. Also, be especially careful to avoid drowning carpet in hot glue. It is a mess when it happens and there is no recovery.

When you glue the carpet together, lift the carpet back to hot glue using a carpet tractor. It is a good idea to put a flat weight over the seam for a few minutes while you work around.

If you are a beginner, I would not recommend you try using carpet suture iron to fix the carpet. This requires skills that do not come up on the first try. You can get a better view by viewing the free videos that you can find on the main website.
