Ocean City, Maryland Vacation Planner:
Visiting Ocean City as a child than as a parent, and now living here with my grandchildren, gave me a unique perspective on what Ocean City has to offer. From a day trip to an annual vacation, I offer my advice on what I have enjoyed over the years.
That has changed over the course of 50 years, but not as much as you think. Sand dunes and deserts have passed, which exist north of 60th Street when I was a child. They were replaced by high-rise condominiums, shopping centers, hotels, restaurants and residential buildings of any possible configuration.
The promenade now runs from the bay on the southern edge of Ocean City to 26th Street. Most of the "action" - from the 4th street south. If you want to stay where this action is, I recommend staying on the boardwalk. This is a great area if you have teenagers or just the atmosphere of fuss and bustle. Even the boardwalk layer can be expanded according to how much action you want. The further you get from the entrance, the more relaxed the boardwalk is. See My article, Where to Stay, for a complete list of what each area of the ocean likes.
Although not everyone likes the same entertainment, I guess the main reason for coming to Ocean City is the ocean. Our beaches are fairly stable throughout Ocean City with fairly wide open spaces, very clean, and lifeguards deployed each unit with communication systems connecting the entire beach. The only important exception is from the entrance to the 6th street; This area has an extremely wide beach area with volleyball and playgrounds. It is useful for daily visitors and children, but for the elderly and disabled. Access to the beach from the end of the sidewalk-north is restricted to the paths that run through the sand dunes at the end of each street. Rental of chairs, umbrellas and boogie boards is available on every entrance floor on the beach (at the time of this writing). There are many places where you can dine all over the boardwalk, but lay down other lunch plans if you stay on the boardwalk.
To get away from the action and spend a more relaxed day at the beach, I recommend Assateg Island and Assateg Island National Park. Although the actual park starts at the entrance, you have to drive about 15 minutes to get to the entrance to the parks. Take Route 50 to the west than route 611 to the south. Route 611 ends on Assateg Island. Here you will find the State Park and the National Park. State Park is somewhat more expensive, but there is a snack bar. I personally prefer the national park, because it has more to offer. While the State Park is limited to a snack bar, there is a canoe rental in the National Park; tours, crabping pier and only 4-wheel drive (permission required). Fires are allowed on the beach at night from the tide mark to the tide mark. In both areas, there are guaranteed food beaches, picnic tables, grills, lounges and showers. Campgrounds are available in both parks, but pre-bookings are almost always required.
Entertainment does not stop at the beach.
The boardwalk offers trips, games, arcades, shops and, of course, baby food in all of us. Here again the action is concentrated from 1st street to the entrance. To entertain children and children at heart, I would suggest Splash Mountain on 30th Street and Coastal Hwy. There are several types of water slides, a lazy river, a wave pool, snack bars, as well as my favorite rainforest. Rain Forest is fun for everyone; he has super heavy guns to shoot people when they walk (my favorite - I fight people from 6 to 60 years old), water slides, a giant pirate hat that slowly fills and drops the contents to all below, and water squirting you from everywhere. Trust me; This huge water version of the jungle gym itself is worth the price. It's so much fun that lifeguards put on helmets and rain coats.
There are plenty of racing tracks for every age and miniature golf courses that have something for everyone. A complete list of fun things you can visit on our entertainment page.
For adults, there are nightclubs serving all age groups and bars with many different themes. Seacrets is so popular among young people that it has its own radio station, and Fager Island is popular among more sophisticated crowds. Between them there is everything: from karaoke to beach bars.
May be sent rainy day; go to the cinema, go shopping, go to the indoor pools located in many hotels, sitting on the balcony, watching the ocean, making a day trip to historic Berlin, Maryland, or simply enjoying a long lunch at one of the waterfront restaurants.
Dinner at Ocean City for most of us is similar to Family Feud. There are so many options, and no one ever feels the same at the same time. My family starts discussing dinner plans earlier, so if necessary, you can make an order. During the peak season, keep in mind that the lines in popular restaurants can be long (even if the food is just so-so). My personal recommendations:
1-Marina Deck, excellent crab soup and seafood, and it's on the water
2-Waterman & # 39; s Seafood Restaurant, very good crab feast and seafood
3-Nick Original rib house, very good ribs and beef
4-Harpoon Hanna, very good seafood and on the water (the service is somewhat slow)
5-The Crabcake Factory USA, the best crab cakes,
6 Higgins Crab House, very good crabs and good seafood,
7-Bull on the beach, great beef and good beef,
Italian restaurant 8-Adolofo, excellent Italian dishes (expensive)
9-Embers Restaurant, very good seafood and first-course buffet,
Pizza 10-Ponzetti, my favorite pizza,
11-Lombardi, another good pizza and Italian restaurant,
12-Sakura, excellent Japanese steakhouse,
13-Phillip's Crab House, good seafood (worth a visit, but no longer the best seafood in Ocean City)
14-Outback Steakhouse, the same food you get at home, but it's good when you're tired of new places.
These are my favorite restaurants. There are a lot of great choices and a lot of different ideas about how good the food is. A good restaurant for me is a combination of very good and excellent food with reasonable prices, good service and a varied menu for the whole family. Please leave reviews for restaurants that you visit during your stay to help others choose a good restaurant.
I hope this article will give you a general idea of what a small resort town is. We hope you enjoy your stay and come back year after year.
