Design of mold-shaped gate - do you like your cell phone? -2

Each injection mold must have a valve or hole through which molten plastic is injected into the mold cavity. The type and size of the door plays a very important role in the injection molding process and should not be ignored.

In the ordinary casting business, the margin is extremely dense. This requires the mold manufacturer to very accurately determine the size and type of closure for the injection mold. Wrong gates can cause a catastrophe, or at least rework a form that can quickly eat a profit.

There should be huge plastic parts in the world: mobile phones, computers, hoops, keyboards, televisions, toy machine guns, goggles, etc. And so on.

Gates vary in size and shape depending on the type of molded plastic, as well as the size and shape of the part. Obviously, large pieces require a large gate or even several gates.

General types of gates

o Tab-gate.

o Tunnel gates (also known as underwater gates)

o Banana Gate

o Smiley-gate

o Hot end gates

There are other types of gates, especially in hot-tip applications, but this is the object itself.

Gate valve is the simplest of all. This is the type of gate that you see when you buy a plastic product that requires hacking from a runner or a tree-like piece of plastic attached to a part. This is usually a flat, stool-like connector that allows plastic to flow into the part.

Tunnel, or underwater gates, is more complex and requires much higher qualifications to add to the form. This type of gate is a cone that is added below the surface of the part, thus the name: underwater gate. It also has a tunnel view. This is used when there cannot be much evidence that the gate is left apart. This is called the gate.

It is also used in large production forms where everything is automated, and a part must go out of the gate so that they can be divided and packed.

Street gate so called, because when you look at it, it looks like a smile, sort of. It is harder to handle and is used to add gates right at the bottom of the plastic part. This is similar to a tunnel gate, except that the lower part is trimmed or truncated. This allows the gate to be right at the bottom of the plastic part. Smiley-gates are also used in high-performance applications, where a piece must come out of the gate for automation purposes.

Banana Gate quite a novel, but very useful. This gate is used when there is no trace of the shutter on the plastic part. It is like a tunnel gate, but curved like a banana, so it can get under the part and allow the plastic to be injected into the hidden area of the part.

Conclusion

The size, type and location of the gate used in the production of plastic injection molds have a significant impact on the quality of the plastic part, as well as how quickly it is produced. Gates play an important role in automating custom injection molding.
