- Have you been on a diet and out of it for most of your life?
- Are you struggling to lose weight and then not to hold?
- Do you lack motivation, accountability and consistency?
- Do you want to stop emotional eating, poisonous guilt and negative self-regulation?
- Would you like to achieve and maintain a healthy weight for life, but do not know how to do it?
If you answered “Yes” to the above questions, then you are what I called a consistent dietitian. Serial diets are people who have been on diets and out of them for many years even decades, but they still cannot achieve and maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. For successive diers, food, cooking and food do not feel anything as a source of pleasure; instead, it is a source of complex decisions and emotions that cause confusion, anxiety, fear and self-doubt. The good news is that there is a way to put an end to yo-yoga weight, enjoy food again and live healthy for the rest of your life. While some aspects of achieving your goals are different for each person, below are three steps that each successive diet may take to begin the process of ending the cycle of a successive diet right now.
1-Take responsibility
As a former follower, I can tell you that healthy changes in your life and in your relationship with food and exercise will not occur until you take responsibility for your actions. Not the actions that led you to where you are, but actions or lack of actions that hold you back. Yes, it is easier to eat fast and processed foods, yes, it is difficult to work 3-4 times a week, and yes, it is more difficult to eat healthy most of the time. No one said that traveling to a healthy lifestyle would be easy. Stop making excuses, take responsibility and do it. This is not about quick fixes, but about real commitment to a lifelong change for the better. Think of all the years, even decades, that you are overweight, displeased and frustrated. Aren't you tired of this? You are not ready for real change. Stop making excuses and finally take responsibility for your health, weight and well-being.
2-Stop "go on a diet"
I remember that in elementary school I taught the definition of the word “diet” as the food a person usually eats on a daily basis. I am a vegetarian, so my diet consists of fruits, vegetables, and grains. But for most people, the word "diet" has become noticeable with a calorie restrictive diet, in which we reduce the amount of calories we consume or eliminate total food groups from our daily regiment. Being on a calorie restrictive diet is a self-limiting change in surface level, because when you reach your weight, you stop the diet and return to unhealthy eating habits with which you started the diet, the weight returns, and the cycle begins again. The goal is to stop going on a diet and instead learn how to make healthy weight management a part of your daily life with plans and strategies that change depending on priorities, environmental changes, circumstances and needs.
3-Have a plan and get support
Let us be honest, most of us spend more time planning a special night than we plan our wellness goals. And for most of us talking to others about our endeavors, this is another way of criticism and frustration. How many times have you said, “Starting tomorrow, I will start or stop.” Without a clear plan and support or responsibility. I say this with respect, but if you know how to lose weight and become healthy by turning it and without support and accountability, you will not be in the unhealthy cycle in which you are now. Having a plan can consist of replenishing your kitchen with healthy eating options, keeping a journal of your progress and working with a personal trainer. Support may come by hiring a friend with similar goals, joining a weight loss group, or individual work with a case management coach. A journey to your success must be planned, and you must have support and accountability. Honestly, there is no other way.
Breaking the cycle of a consistent diet is not easy and will not happen overnight, but you can do it by taking responsibility, eating healthy and having a plan and support. Do not allow other weeks, years or even decades (s) to be superfluous, unhealthy and unhappy. Take action right now to end the cycle of a consistent diet.
