To say that Australia is the extreme of extremes will be an understatement. From the island of Tasmania, which is between 40o and 44o south of South to Cape York on the far northern tip of the tropics, from the deserts of the Red Center to the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, Australia really has everything.
Perhaps for me, in any case, the best place in Australia for adventure fishing is in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Because the area is so isolated because of its river systems, rough roads, and although none of the mountains even reach 1,000 meters (3,281 feet), there are so many steep lands that it is very difficult to negotiate with the region.
But there is a side to the problems associated with isolation, for example, the number of shares and the size of the fish!
Now I must point out that I myself have never been to Kimberley, because I suffer badly from constant and inexorable back injury. I, however, am in love with this area and more specifically in love with fishing in Kimberley. How is this possible, you ask?
Well, thanks to Jase & Rodo, a pair of Aussie Blokes who are truly modern day adventurers; I feel like I was there!
Jason Andrews and Rodney Quinton live the dream. These two guys are either completely insane or incredibly happy! After watching their first DVD, I was hooked (no pun was assigned).
The fact is that they are unprocessed - what you see is exactly what happened - there is no film crew, there is no production team and there is no script, and as far as I can tell, there is a plan for barley! As I said, they are completely insane or incredibly happy!
I came across a video trailer for my first DVD on YouTube, and from there I became a fan!
The following is a description on the back of their first DVD; Kimberley Fishing Adventures - Part 1.
Jason Andrews and Rodney Quinton spent twelve months planning this trip. This is what they wanted to do for nine years.
From Wyndham to Kalamburu, boys are joined in a lifelong adventure, 300 km from the sea, in the heart of Kimberley.
Come with Rod and Jays when they travel 5,000 miles on their way to the MacArthur River in the Persian Gulf and Kimberley in Western Australia.
Experience some of the best scenery and country — and some of the most remote places Australia has to offer.
See the impressive King George River, the distant bay and cape of Londonderry.
Watch how they catch crocodiles, swinging big crabs of mud, crayfish and trout spears in crocodile thickets and sharks, and much more ...
What he does not say is the distance traveled only to get there. On the DVD, they explain that they are from Nouza in Southeastern Queensland and travel about 5,000 km (3,106 miles), covering 2 states and 1 territory just to catch fish - that's great!
When I write this article, I assume that they have returned from Kimberley, because it is now considered a seasonal season. It would be quite literally impossible to get to the place where they walked, due to the fact that some of the roads and, of course, most of the tracks they made, will be under water! I think my next article may be about wet. It's amazing how the place is so dry so quickly flooded that it happens every year - animals and plants count on it! But in any case, this is another story.
If you are in fishing, adventure, sightseeing or driving on four wheels, then do yourself a favor and check out these guys!
Their site is raw and far from the spot, but all of their DVDs are there, and there are good readings and maps.
These two boys from Oz gave me a way to feel that I was somewhere really cool. Thank you, guys!
