East Rand in Gauteng, South Africa, is out of the tourist route, which is very unfortunate because it provides many opportunities to see the same things that make the country famous, but without overcrowding. East Rand is represented by several relatively small cities, including Alberton, Benoni (the birthplace of the magnificent Charlize Theron), Boksburg, Springs and Kempton Park.
Alberton began as a suburb where people who worked in Johannesburg could live far from the city. Since then, it has grown to such an extent that it is almost adjacent to the sleepless metropolis and is a city in its own right. But it is its convenience to other attractions in the area that is of interest to tourists. It is close to Joburg and Pretoria; Two of the largest cities in South Africa are overwhelmed with complex issues, but it is also close to the Rietweley Nature Reserve (not to be confused with the Resurrection Reserve Rietley in Cape Town).
According to SA Venues, the Rietvlei nature reserve is one of the largest urban nature reserves in the world. This means that it offers a view of the main game within the city. Within the reserve is located Ritvley dam, which allows you to engage in fishing, yachting and a number of water sports. The reserve is good for bird watching, with skins on the Ritvley dam and the Marais dam within its borders. Birds in sight include the Blue Crane, the Secretary of the Bird, the Fish Eagles, the Orange Humpback Long Claw and the Green Body. Dams are ideal places for a picnic or a rest stop on game adventures or hikes.
The game that inhabits the Rietvlei nature reserve includes a cheetah, a rhinoceros, black wilderness, buffalo, hippopotamus and eland. During the day, the game can be viewed on a nightly ghost with a manual control or on a recorder. There are also guided tours with excursions on the tour, which must be prepared in advance. In terms of walking, there is a 10 km walk and a night walk of 21 km (only on weekends).
Other, mostly unheard of sights in East Rand include the Johannesburg Bunny Park and the Sandbox on Mount Mayem.
Johannesburg’s Bunny Park is located in Benoni and allows children to interact closely with a number of other (less shy) animals. For example, children can feed and graze cows, donkeys and goats and feed and try to stroke chickens and bunnies. Just remember that rabbits are nervous by nature, so try not to endure them too much. In addition, while carrots are a delightful treat, leave the salad at home. Contrary to popular belief, the salad is not so good for rabbits. Bring some cage or even broccoli or cauliflower.
Mount Maye is located in Boksburg (or Benoni, depending on who is doing the advertising). Trips are only available on weekends, and group bookings are required in advance. There are certain minimum requirements, for example, you must be over 12 years old to fall off a hill, and you must be sufficiently adapted. The entrance fee includes equipment, lessons and as many trips to Maihem as you want, but not food and drinks, so you have to bring your own. Nerve sandals can calm down in that all instructors are certified Sandboard South Africa, which is recognized worldwide.
