The One Pillar Pagoda (or also called Chua Mot Cot, which means lasting happiness and luck) has become a symbol of Vietnamese culture and history. This unique Buddhist pagoda is located in Khanom, the second largest city of Vietnam. It is viewed along the pagoda of spirits, as one of the two most iconic temples of Vietnam.

It was built by the emperor Li Tai Tong of the Li Dynasty (1028 - 1054). Legend says that Li Tai Tong was childless, and he used to go to pagodas to pray for his son. Once he dreamed that he met Bodhisattva Avalokeshtvara, who handed him a child, and in the pond she kept a beautiful lotus flower. Soon after, his wife bore him a son. Delighted with this, the emperor ordered the construction of the Pyramid Pagoda in 1049.

The pagoda has a special design, which is designed to cause a large lotus flower (Buddhist symbol of Enlightenment) coming out of the water. Bodhisattva Avaloteshtvara, the goddess of mercy, whom Emperor Li Tai Tong saw in a dream, sat on this flower. On the birthday of Buddha or Vazak, the emperor will come to Palanga with one pillar and redeem the Buddha in the presence of his monks.

In 1105, the pagoda was repaired by Emperor Lee Nhan Tong. French troops destroyed the original when leaving Vietnam. The real temple or pagoda that you see now is a replica built in 1960. The One Pillar Pagoda or Chua Mot Cot is made of strong wood, measuring three square meters and stands on a stone pillar, towering over a 1.25 meter pond. to show my respect.

Women are encouraged to enjoy better fertility after visiting the pagoda. People can still enjoy the view of the pagoda without joining the queue (seeing that it is free), the snack bar sells refreshments nearby, making the pagoda the ideal stop for tourists or visitors on the way between Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Presidential Palace. Pagoda "One Column" is open from 8 to 17 hours every day.
