Mexican sediments are the third largest obsidian deposits in the world and are located west of the city of Guadalajara. These obsidian deposits are archaic only from the Oregon Plateau and African Rift Valley. Obsidian is formed when lava cools or degasses differently.

Obsidian in Western Mexico probably began when lava oozed from the cracks on the side of Tequila volcano millions of years ago, which was after the brighter eruptions of the volcano into the air. More lava came less than 90,000 years ago from the Colli area, where we now find the Primavera Forest. This was condemned on the Tequila-Colli axis, becoming one of the world's most important ancient mining zones for this natural glass, which provided pre-Columbian residents of what is currently western Mexico, with the priceless “gift of the gods” that was clearly created by their fate.

Huge chunks of obsidian are transformed into objects using bare hands and a saw. These pieces of obsidian are made into sleek cutting-edge sculptures, all looking black. These pieces are attractive to some representing animals, and some are simply simple shapes of very chic items that are black and beautifully polished.

These objects or spheres are made from obsidian sangre de indio (Indian blood) and must be taken in the sun to appreciate their colors. Surprisingly, in the sunlight a teardrop will come to life, which looks black in a closed color, illuminating bright stripes of color that largely benefit the surface. This is known as rainbow obsidian. Some pieces, when turned into sunlight, will gleam with gold or silver glitter.

Navajas artisans began to create small butterflies and hearts. Over time, they were given samples of clay made by experienced Mexican sculptors, and they dared to depict works of art in obsidian. Soon after, they created elegant sculptures that found their way to museums and abroad. Obsidian Sangre de Indio is located on a hill near Navajas, but the place with the best obsidian comes from a small town 65 km north of it.

Archangel Rodrigo Esparza, who is called the Obsidian Detective, explained that the colors in obsidian come from the paths of various minerals embedded in it. A small amount of iron gives you a red color, while a tiny bit of copper makes it green. “Analysis of neutron activation gives us a listing of every last element of the trace element in part of obsidian,” says Esparza They have accurate measurements of rare elements such as rubidium, lanthanum and molybdenum, and now they can prove that an obsidian artifact found in California originally originated from an obsidian mine in the Mexican state of Jalisco.

It has been known about the many uses of obsidian in the past. No metal knife on the ground can have a sharp edge like an obsidian blade, because obsidian is glass and has no crystal structure, while metals are limited to the composition of their crystalline limitations. An obsidian scalpel is many times sharper than a metal one.

Obsidian was used to make a macahuitl, a flat wooden sword with obsidian blades. It was also used to make arrowheads, scrapers, jewelry, and a wide range of other items.

The most inquisitive obsidian field is the mine of San Isidro Mazatepec, which can only be entered on crawling on the same lap, and has a colony of vampire bats that are unhappy with an invasion.

Without a doubt, for people without metal tools, obsidian was a divine gift that provided them with the sharpest imaginable blades and arrowheads for hunting, eating and fighting.
