Not all tourists are the same, and (not surprisingly) not all folding camping saws are equal. In this article, you will learn how folding saws have significant differences in design and how these differences matter to you. Depending on the camping style you prefer, the best folding camping saw will differ for you.
Car camping or hiking?
The biggest consideration is whether you are camping in an easily accessible campsite or hiking in the back country. If you like car camping, you can have more equipment to make your experience enjoyable. In addition, the equipment you use will be heavier and more capable than that used by a tourist or camper.
Most tourists or campers are like small, lightweight folding saws that resemble edged saws. These saws usually have blades ranging in length from 5 to 8 inches. Blade folds into handle for quick deployment and easy storage. True edged saws have small teeth because they are designed to cut a live tree without significant damage to the tree. But the real saws for a backpack have coarse teeth, which very quickly pass through dead wood. They are not very suitable for gardening, because they tear apart a tree branch.
Car tourists can carry a large folding saw. Most of these saws — for example, Sawvivor or Sven Saw — have blades that least 15 inches long. Longer blades mean much greater cutting speed and efficiency. And they mean that you can process thicker logs and branches.
Of course, the maximum versatility of the camp is a big onion saw. But since these saws are only partially collapsible, they are not very portable. If you have a lot of space for your equipment, this may be the best choice for you. But if the space gets a bit tense, stick to fully collapsible camping models.
Forest cutting or hunting?
Virtually every folding saw that is being sold today is great for the transverse processing of dead wood. That is, it is suitable to help you gather wood for the fire.
But many high-quality folding saws have replaceable blades. And various blades are available for serving several purposes. While you can be satisfied with a good cross blade, you will be pleased to know that you can also use a metal cutting blade or even a bone saw by simply changing the blades. This makes assembly saws useful for hunters and multiplayer. One saw can do everything if you have spare blades at your place in the camp.
