An epoxy floor is the process of applying layers of epoxy to a floor surface, usually up to 2 mm thick. There are two process definitions: one from the manufacturers of the product and from the contractors who use them. The reason for the different schools of thought lies in the manufacturer's instructions and how contractors use the product and their experience with it.
How it works?
Floor coating requires four steps, surface preparation for floors, primers, coatings and sealing. When applied correctly, it is completely hygienic and non-slippery, even when wet.
It is well tolerated on many types of surfaces, such as metal, concrete, tile and wood, and is resistant to most aggressive chemicals that create a strong and durable surface, and some color can even be added to epoxy for a small flash. Although it is widely used for commercial purposes, it also appeals to homeowners for its easy maintenance and durability, and often someone lays it in his garage, basement or laundry room.
Types
There are several self-dispersing types that are used for areas with forklifts and other heavy machines that are commonly used in warehouse conditions. Self-dispersion using quartz sand is used in the food industry because it creates a non-slippery surface. Places like restaurants and vaults use a self-leveling view due to ease of maintenance. Mortar floors are used in heavy industries. The list goes on and on, you have decorative epoxy, functional epoxy and even antistatic epoxy that is used in hospitals and laboratories!
Costs
Naturally, epoxy flooring is not inexpensive, and the cost of the floor depends on the size of the surface to be covered. Of course, the cost of this type of floor is justified by its durability, because as soon as it is laid, it will last a lifetime. Epoxy flooring is usually performed by a contractor if it is a commercial job, but there are many different kits that homeowners can buy on an epoxy basis in their basements and garages. Some of the kits come with flakes to add or scatter on the epoxy resin as soon as it is applied. They come in different colors, so coincidence is not a problem, and you will get the same durability as commercial industries.
