A broadband network is a type of computer network that spans a large area. By and large, this means that the region may expand beyond the capital, regional or even national borders.
A wide network in a very simple language connects two or more local networks through devices that are routers or function as routers. Users in different places of the global network are connected to each other through one central server. This server can serve only all computers on the network.
All computers in the global network are connected to the central database management system of the server. With this central database system, all computers in the global network store real-time data, and then send input results to a central server for output at that very moment.
There are four types of broadband connectivity options: leasing, circuit switching, packet switching or cell relay. A leasing line is the most classic type of broadband network, where there is a point-to-point connection between two computers. It is mainly used for small companies and colleges.
Channel switching is another type of broadband network. In this type, a chain is created between the endpoints, and an example of this is a dial-up connection. Another feature of the Broad Network is packet switching, when multiple data sets are sent and received at the same time.
With Wide-Area-Network, shared resources are shared by one company. For example, if a person buys prescription drugs from a single store in the UK, it is recorded on a computer, and then he can buy the drug from any branch of this chain of pharmacies in the UK. A similar case concerns banks in which people used to use cash only from their designated bank branches. However, now they can make money in any branch of this bank using online banking.
Broadband has simplified life and communication. Distances have been greatly reduced. In addition, thanks to VPN technology (which was built on the basis of the global network principle), employees can do their work at home and can even store and share it on the Internet.
Having said that, it should also be known that broadband networks also have some negative aspects. Security is a major risk for people and companies using broadband networks. Anyone can access your computer using your IP address. Moreover, installing global networks in places like institutions and business companies requires money, resources, and frequent maintenance. In conclusion, global networks have welcomed the revolution in our lives. It helped the world communicate faster and more efficiently; and also made the lives of people in general easy by providing online services that no one had ever thought about 30 years of age.
