Expert advice: choosing paint colors for interior walls -2

There is something magical about painting your house. Firstly, it is incredibly inexpensive. You can almost completely change how guests feel when they pass through your front door for an investment of less than $ 100 in paints and materials.

And, secondly, the paint is powerful. When you choose the right color, it makes everyone in your house sing. But this is the hard part. Choosing paint colors for interior walls is difficult, and you often feel as if you are flying blind, facing many samples in a hardware store.

To help you make the best decision for your home, here is a guide to choosing paint colors for interior walls in different rooms.

Oh, one last note: different houses open up in different rooms. Keep this in mind when you choose paint colors for interior walls. In whatever room the visitors are, you want it to be bold and beautiful, without going over the top. This room is usually a living room, so we will start, but most of all pay attention to the room of the first impression in your house.

Living room
What is important when choosing paint colors for your living room? Start with these three things:

  1. Natural light
  2. Furniture color
  3. distance
If your room is full of natural light, you can get away from earth tones, which add a dark addition to the rays of the sun pouring through the windows during the day. If you do not have natural light, go for something brighter.

Also, use your living room paint to balance with your furniture. You want your living room to include a primary color and two accent colors. For example, you can have a large, bold rug that creates a base color. Then use your furniture and walls as accents. Or you can have a beautiful picture over your mantelpiece, which creates a pleasant accent. Then you can use furniture as another accent and wall paint as your primary color. No matter how you diverge, balance is key.

Also consider the interval. A lighter paint color can make a smaller, denser living room larger. You definitely do not want a cramped living room with a little natural light to also feature dark, earthy colors.

Kitchen
You have a lot of possibilities in your kitchen to offer shades of color: wall-mounted, curtains, kitchen towels, granite, even a funny mixer. That is why I usually prefer a beautiful, neutral gray for my kitchen. (I’ve always been in love with Dorian Gray, but that’s just me.) Find the right gray and you’ll have a good palette to add fun shades of color.

Not neutral? Well, that is completely understandable. Larger kitchen options may include yellow, green or blue. The green color is quite versatile when the bright colors of the accent are combined, and the yellow color is like the sun entering your home. Blue is good if your kitchen is full of neutral kitchen towels, granite, curtains, etc.

Want to really bold in the kitchen? Go through the paint and take part in the return of the wallpaper. I'm not quite there yet, but ...

Bedroom
If you are something like me, you are not doing much in the bedroom, besides reading a book, get ready for work and rest. (Ok, another thing, but let me stay on the subject.) With this in mind, make your bedroom an ideal place to relax using soothing and relaxing colors.

What colors soothe and relax? Try lavender, soft green or icy blue. I know that many homeowners simply cannot fail to put a bolder print on their walls. If you are tempted to go with a stronger color bedroom, do it in the guest room or in the children's room. This is the perfect place to be a little more adventurous.

bathroom
Bathrooms do not usually have natural light. In any case, you may have a broken window, but most bathrooms do not have windows.

With this in mind, go to the hardware store and stock up with light colors from the blue-gray family - this is the best range for bathroom color. Take samples home and install them on the floor to see how they work with lighting, as well as tiles, hardwood or vinyl flooring.

I have used this method in the past, and one sample always jumped on me. We wish you the same success! But, again, along with the kitchen, the bathroom is another place where you can get away with testing funny wallpapers - especially a half bath.

Final thoughts on choosing paint colors for interior walls
I say this a lot, but: The rules must be broken. Drop everything I wrote here, if it takes you to paint colors that you just don't like. Always remain faithful to your personal taste, and you will not go wrong.
