Like many Chicagoans in the last few months of winter, I was in hibernation. Not necessarily intentionally - we went on vacation to Orlando in early February and returned so much because of a cocktail with various ailments (the most serious of which was bronchitis) that we retreated to our house and did not go out for three more weeks.

Gary Cole once said: "I miss Chicago, except January and February." And although there is still enough as a big city to do this time of year throughout this area, I would have to say at least the smallest truth to this attitude, especially with the giant snow that we started the first few days of February.

But the return of the March madness raises my spirits, especially since I'm a big fan of Kansas. Despite the fact that we lost on Sunday - graciously, I missed the huge losses for VCU, because I was at the Northlight Theater, enjoying the wonderful work “Sense & Sensibility”, by that time I was at least ready for spring.

After the show, I visited my first new restaurant, which seemed to me for centuries. My friend who accompanied me on the show wanted to try, and I always play, so I agreed. We visited a nice and elegant restaurant called Bistro Bordeaux, which is located right in the center of Evanston. Evanston, you know, is a suburb north of Chicago and home to Northwestern University. This is one of the most interesting and urban suburbs and affordable Ale on the purple line.

As soon as I entered this place, it seemed to me familiar. I visited the restaurant all the time a few years ago when it was home to Mt. Everest, a favorite Indian restaurant. Mt Everest moved to another area down the block, but I always liked this little store better. There is a certain elegance, dark woods and romantic lighting - it always seemed very suitable for dating or an intimate meeting with friends.

It has been a very long time since I visited a French restaurant. In fact, I can not even determine the overall year or season. This is partly due to the fact that my husband and I choose more vegetarian food when we are together. That is why I need to meet my friends more often. We began our meal with crunchy bread and softened butter, and my snack was an eskargot, floating in a sauce of melted butter. For me, the sauce makes escargot, and it was beautiful. Escargot, I think, can get a ruby, if not well cooked, but these little snails had a good texture and taste. My friend ordered pork terrine, which arrived with mustard and crostini and small miniature pickles (I think). It was very tasty. The starter menu also includes foie gras, soup of the day (celery root), tartar of the day (for example, quiche) and oyster of the day.

My main dish is scallops with holland black truffle sauce, which features toasted almonds and French legumes. The plate was called Coquille St Jacques Pôellées, Haricot Vert Amandine, Sauce Hollandaise Truffée (isn't the Internet a great thing?). Scallops were very well cooked, and the truffle sauce was creamy and full of flavor. But I also love french fries, so I ordered the side of the Pommes Frites restaurant with garlic mayonnaise. These thin, crispy potatoes are cooked in beef tallow; they are salty, skinny and tasty. I will be back only for them.

My friend had Aile de Raie Rotie à la Grenobloise and the son of Choux Fleur Caramelizé, which translates into a skate fried wing, caramelized cauliflower, capers, brioche croutons, small pieces of lemon supra and brown butter sauce. It was very tasty and delicious.

We took the recommendation from the waiter to go with our seafood dishes and shared the split champagne. I do not remember the names for me to live - I'm bad at it, but I remember that the list of wines on the back page of the menu was very elaborated and comprehensive.

We had no place for dessert, and it was great, as I try to be healthier in the framework of my new year. I am one of those people who are gaining weight by looking at food. And I must tell you that all the salted french fries, escargotes in melted garlic butter and bread and butter that came with our dishes, for some reason I managed not to get a single pound from this food.

Therefore, I can fully recommend this place if you are looking for romantic French food. The cost of services ranges from 20 to 30 US dollars; Chateaubriand for two hours at a level slightly less than $ 30 per person. I think we’ll be back for Sunday brunch. It sounds divine ...
