One of my readers, who worked in good shape, sent a question about how to do push-ups, although he has bad knees. He wanted to know how he could still do pushups, but not go down to the floor. Fortunately, I have an answer to his question.
For each standard exercise, there is usually a variation of this exercise that you can do. For example, when many people start with regular push-ups, they cannot do them very well, because they lack the strength in their arms and shoulders to move up and down. In this case, you should start doing push-ups with your knees on the floor and build up to such an extent that you can do regular push-ups. It does not take long for this to happen if you do regular exercises.
If you have bad knees, you can do push-ups on the walls. First you will find the nearest wall, which should not be too complicated. Then you put your hands on the wall in the same relative position as on the floor, that is, shoulder-width apart. Then you move your legs back from the wall to create a corner.
When I started doing this, my legs were about 24 inches from the wall. As I got better, I gradually began to move my legs a little further back, and now I can easily do this with my legs at a distance of 36 inches from the wall. You lean against the wall, balance on the front of your legs and start moving by pressing up and down. You adjust your angle so your back is straight, just like you were on the floor.
This way you can make almost any change in pushups, and this will not affect your knees. I made a bunch of variations in the same way as military pushups, wide pushups of hands, diamond pushups, finger pushups and ... believe me or not ... one hand pushups and even one hand, pushups of fingers. At the moment I am working on one hand, two fingers.
Exercise can be extremely creative, so do not think that just because you have a problem area that you cannot solve. Because with a little imagination, you can avoid the problem area and get the rest to work as the top. Many times it will even help the problem area.
Of course, if you have a very serious problem, you should discuss what you are going to do with your doctor and get approval first. There are many physical therapists and trainers who can also provide you with safe and alternative exercise programs to help you become stronger.
This morning, watching Imus at Fox, he got a huge cork fish oil. Since he was diagnosed with cancer many years ago, he completely changed his lifestyle, and it looks like he beat cancer. Fish oil is a big part of his routine, and he said that it greatly changed what he feels. Before being diagnosed with cancer, Imus, by his own admission, was a poster boy not to be healthy and said that he was very lucky that he just warned.
The body is extremely elastic. Six months of healthy eating, exercise, and proper supplementation can reverse years of abuse. Start right now and relieve yourself.
